Home / Medicare Insurance / Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D)
Americans spend thousands of dollars on medications every year. In fact, we pay much more than what other countries pay for the same medicines. One practical way to save yourself from high prescription drug costs is to enroll in a prescription drug plan like Medicare Part D.
Medicare Part D is a prescription drug coverage added to your Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and helps you pay for medications prescribed by your doctors. This coverage is not automatically included in Original Medicare. The only available way to get it is by enrolling in a stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) or a Medicare Advantage Plan that also includes Part D (MAPD).
Not all of us need a Part D plan, but signing up for it can help you cut down your medication expenses and protect you from rising costs in the future. Medicare Part D covers branded, generic, and specialty drugs.
More reasons to consider Medicare drug coverage:
Medications for accidents and unexpected illnesses can be expensive.
Medicare Part D helps pay for most outpatient and maintenance prescription drugs, including insulin and insulin syringes, biological drugs, and cancer treatment drugs.
If you’re not taking any medications right now, Part D will help you get drug prescription coverage in the future.
It expands your original Medicare coverage and/or Medicare Supplement plan.
